Dear Sir,
Relative to your request to find reliable information from the old people who now live in Lucban as to whether they had seen any big ball of fire on the typhoon which had swept Mauban sometimes on the year 1890, I extremely regret to inform you that after interviewing several old people they could not give me the information requested. Some of them told that they do not remember any severe typhoon which had passed in Lucban at that time. An old man had informed me however that on the typhoon which had passed in Lucban in 1890 which he considers to be the strangest and most severe typhoon which had ever visited Tayabas he saw some balls of fire in the sky during the said typhoon.
Hoping that I may again be of service to you on other occasions, I remain,
Very respectfully,
Juan V. Eleazar (Director)
This really made my day. Public service has never been so transparent. Also, what a wonderful thing—speaking to the older folk to find out if indeed, balls of fire were ever sighted in Lucban.
Thank you, Ramon Sunico and the Manila Observatory.
